Digital television is about to take over the world, and is already being exclusively used in many different countries.  Digital TV refers to any television service that is involved in the sending and receiving of moving images, sound, and other information by using digital signals, as opposed to the analog signals used in traditional television services.  There are a number of advantages to using digital TV signals, including more channels, a higher quality service, and the opportunity for more interaction between viewers and broadcasters.  For a company selling Whirlpools and spa bath products through the medium of television, or any other niche business trying to reach out to a targeted market, digital TV will open up a number of avenues for promotion and marketing.

The first country to implement digital TV was Luxembourg, in 2006, followed quickly by the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, and Germany.  Most other nations around the world are scheduled to switch over to an exclusively digital service at some time before 2012.  The reason why the switch over to digital has happened so fast and been so universally accepted is due to the number of clear advantages that digital TV is able to offer over analog services.  Digital TV is able to incorporate a number of different picture formats, including high definition signals, different picture ratios, and radio broadcasts.  Along with a better and more flexible picture, digital signals are also able to provide a degree of interactivity that has never been available before through the medium of television.

The shear number of digital channels that can be broadcast in the same bandwidth means that smaller and more niche focused stations will be able to compete more easily with the large commercial networks.  Shopping channels, amateur broadcasts, and advertising networks will be more likely to find space to broadcast their signals in a digital environment.  There will also be space for a larger variety of programmes, and a degree of interactivity that is likely to be used by shopping channels, sports broadcasts, and games shows.  For a company selling Whirlpool and spa products, digital TV will provide them with the ability to reach out to a larger market, and perhaps interact with that market through special interactive commercials.
